“Conquer” is Carl Thomas' fourth studio album and second since leaving Bad Boy Records where he recorded “Emotional” and “Let’s Talk About It” for the Indie label Verve Forecast. After reaching #2 on the R&B Charts with "So Much Better," his first release with Verve, what exactly is Carl Thomas planning “Conquer” on this album? The Charts of course!
It seems that Thomas is stretching a bit outside of his normal R&B only style on the tracks “Conquer” and “Not the Same” for a more Popish sound but on the remaining tracks, Thomas definitely keep it soulful. The first single “Don’t Kiss Me” featuring Snoop showcases the classic Carl Thomas sound we know and love from the “Emotional” album back in 2004. Other notable tracks on this album are the ballads “Sweet Love” and “It Ain’t Fair,” the mid tempo “It Is What It Is” and the Hip-Hop inspired “Long Distance Affair.” Overall this is a good album that has a good chance of being over looked because of the lack of the big record label marketing push.
If you enjoy a good Soul album, “Conquer” is definitely a good one to add to your collection.
