Ledisi's "Pieces of Me" - A Good Piece of Work

Pieces of Me is Ledisi's 5th Studio Album and we at Soul Music Junkie believes it's her best yet! Ledisi is considered a "Neo-Soul" artist because her lack of commercial saturation. However, she's just as good or better than many R&B vocalist, but as we all know, vocal ability doesn't determine commercial success (we won't name any names).

This album is smooth and consistent from Track 1 through 14. She starts out with the title track "Pieces of Me", followed by "So Into You" which are very strong tracks. Although "Coffee" wasn't our favorite track it still fits in with the flow of the album. "Hate Me" is a little change of pace in the because it sounds a bit Blues-inspired. This track sucks you in with the hook of "I know you hate me, but you can't stop loving me." "Shut Up", "Shine", and "Raise Up" are probably as much up-tempo as this album gets; which is an good thing because Ledisi's sound isn't tailored to the club.

"Pieces of Me" started off very strong but it tapered off a bit towards the end. Overall, we like this album and recommend it to those of you who enjoy a smooth, soulful album.
